The space at 23538 Calabasas Road sat closed after The Mulholland shut in October 2025. Today it's Jon & Vinny's, open seven days a week with breakfast from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. and lunch and dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The new tenant matters less than the hours. With a kitchen serving breakfast at 8 a.m., the Old Town stretch of Calabasas Road now covers a full Saturday on a handful of neighboring addresses, from the first pancakes to Sagebrush Cantina's 2 a.m. close. This October, the Leonis Adobe's Pumpkin Party lands on a Saturday on that block, and the city's big Pumpkin Festival takes a Sunday across town.
The Morning Gap Closed in July
Conejo Valley Guide reported that Jon & Vinny's "opened July 27th," and the restaurant's own Calabasas page now lists full daily service. Chefs Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo founded the restaurant, which serves California-Italian comfort food in a casual, diner-style room. The Calabasas breakfast menu includes pancakes, avocado toast and egg dishes, plus pizza. Later in the day there's pasta, salad, meatballs, chicken cutlets and spicy fusilli.
Compare those hours with the neighbors. Sagebrush Cantina at 23527 Calabasas Road opens at 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday and starts Sunday brunch at 10 a.m. The Leonis Adobe Museum at 23537 Calabasas Road opens at 10 a.m. on Saturdays. Before this summer, the block's early hours belonged mostly to the Calabasas Farmers' Market. The City's July newsletter describes it as a Saturday fixture in Old Town, running 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with produce, baked goods, handcrafted items and specialty foods. On Saturdays, Jon & Vinny's breakfast window now runs alongside the market's first three and a half hours.
Conejo Valley Guide places the restaurant across from Sagebrush Cantina. Its street number is one off the museum's. The newest kitchen in Old Town and a museum that just turned 60 sit about as close together as two addresses can.
A Saturday on One Stretch, Hour by Hour
Using only posted hours, here's how a Saturday on Calabasas Road now fits together:
- 8:00 a.m. The farmers' market opens, and so does breakfast at Jon & Vinny's.
- 10:00 a.m. Leonis Adobe opens for Saturday hours, which run until 4 p.m.
- 11:00 a.m. Sagebrush Cantina opens, and so does its General Store at the restaurant entrance. On Fridays and Saturdays the store stays open until 9 p.m.
- 11:30 a.m. The first guided tour of the Leonis house starts. Saturday tours also run at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.
- 11:30 a.m. Jon & Vinny's switches from breakfast to lunch and dinner.
- 1:00 p.m. The farmers' market closes.
- 10:00 p.m. Jon & Vinny's closes.
- 2:00 a.m. Sagebrush Cantina closes its Friday and Saturday service.
On regular weekends, the museum costs nothing. General admission is free, donations are optional, and the house can only be seen on a guided tour. The Plummer House on the property works as the visitor center and gift shop. Sunday hours are shorter: 1 to 4 p.m., with tours at 1:30 and 2:30.
Two newer shops at 23504 Calabasas Road fill in the daytime hours. The City's March 27, 2026 mayoral newsletter announced KittyBird Blooms, a flower and gift shop in Suite 2, and The Library Calabasas, a spirits shop in Suite 3. KittyBird's own site still lists the Suite 2 address and offers seasonal arrangements and gifts. We couldn't find a recent listing for The Library Calabasas, so check before planning a stop there.
The Adobe That Anchors the Block Just Turned 60
On September 26, the Leonis Adobe Museum marked 60 years open to the public. Valley News Group noted that the site was dedicated as Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #1. The museum preserves 1880s ranch life, and thousands of schoolchildren visit each year.
The anniversary evening gave out three awards. Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa received the Leonis Legacy Award. He voiced an introduction to the museum's film. Ken Bernstein, Principal City Planner for Los Angeles City Planning and author of Preserving Los Angeles: How Historic Places Can Transform America's Cities, received the Leonis Preservation Award. The Leonis Family Foundation received the Education Legacy Award. Susan Leonis-Jensen, a great-great-great niece of Miguel Leonis, accepted it.
On the same date, Malibu Creek State Park celebrated its own 50th anniversary. California State Parks and the Santa Monica Mountains Fund hosted an evening of live music, food, storytelling and stargazing under the theme "Stories Live Here." Members of the "Apemania" group came in full makeup inspired by "Planet of the Apes," parts of which were filmed in the park. After dark, the Los Angeles Astronomical Society led telescope viewing. The park's day-use parking is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Both milestones fell on one late-September Saturday, and both have passed. The museum's next public event is on the October calendar.
October's Calendar Splits by Day of the Week
The city's largest fall event and the Old Town events don't share a day. The Calabasas Pumpkin Festival is on a Sunday at a park on Lost Hills Road. The Leonis Adobe Pumpkin Party is on a Saturday on Calabasas Road, and Sagebrush Cantina advertises its annual Halloween party for a Saturday, October 31, on a page that doesn't print a year.
| Date | Event | Location | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wed., Oct. 7 to Thu., Oct. 15 | Great Pup-Kin contest online voting | Online | Entries close Mon., Oct. 5; winners announced Oct. 18 |
| Sun., Oct. 18 | Calabasas Pumpkin Festival | Juan Bautista de Anza Park, 3701 Lost Hills Road | 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; $15 advance through Oct. 17, $20 on event day |
| Sat., Oct. 24 | Leonis Adobe Pumpkin Party | 23537 Calabasas Road | 1 to 4 p.m.; $10, members and children under two free |
| "Saturday October 31st," no year posted | Sagebrush Cantina annual Halloween costume party | 23527 Calabasas Road | 8 p.m.; $500 costume contest, live music; confirm with the restaurant |
The City's festival page promises a marketplace, pumpkin-themed food, music, entertainment and a pumpkin patch. Parking is free in designated business lots, with free shuttles to the park. The $5 gap between advance and event-day tickets ends at 11:59 p.m. on October 17. If your dog is entering the Great Pup-Kin contest, entries close tomorrow, October 5.
Six days after the festival, the Leonis Adobe Pumpkin Party offers a scavenger hunt, crafts, music and demonstrations. It's one of the few times the museum charges admission. The $10 ticket is a change from its usual free weekend hours. Because the party runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on a Saturday, a morning at the farmers' market and a late breakfast across the street fit before it with no overlap.
Sagebrush Cantina's site advertises its annual Halloween costume party for "Saturday October 31st 8pm." The page doesn't print a year, so it may not be a 2026 listing. Check with the restaurant before planning a costume around it.
After October
The museum's posted 2026 calendar has one more public date. Holiday Roundup is set for Saturday, December 5, from 1 to 4 p.m., with the same $10 admission and the same free entry for members and children under two. The museum's 2026 events list shows no Día de los Muertos event. None of the museum, restaurant or shop pages show a publish date, so call ahead to confirm hours before a visit.
The Plummer House gift shop, the Saturday market and the 8 a.m. breakfast window all run every week. The December 5 Holiday Roundup puts the next ticketed event at the adobe on a Saturday too.
